Welcome to the Center for Cybersecurity at Chemeketa Community College located in Salem, Oregon. Chemeketa has developed a Cybersecurity Center to provide access to Information Security and Information Assurance resources.

  • Cybersecurity Associates Degree
    This degree focuses on cybersecurity and safety, computer forensics, ethical hacking, and routing and switching of networks. To develop the foundational skills in computing, you will take courses in digital literacy, programming, web design, operating systems, hardware, and networks. In your second year you will learn about server management, database management, data security, computer forensics, ethical hacking, routing and switching of networks, network systems management, security+, and computer architecture. You will also have the opportunity to complete cooperative work experience to gain experience that may help lead to a career path.

    Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA)

    (November 16th, 2018) - Homeland Security has a new government agency for cybersecurity. CISA is responsible for protecting the Nation’s critical infrastructure from physical and cyber threats. This mission requires effective coordination and collaboration among a broad spectrum of government and private sector organizations.

      Mandy Reininger has 18 years of teaching computer information systems at the collegiate level. She is active college wide as a member of several committees including the Quality Online Instruction group and the Instructional Technology Advisory Group (iTAG). She has been the CIS program chair for the past 9 years. She is a member of the Oregon Council of Computing Chairs. She co-authored Digital Literacy through Chemeketa Press, the textbook currently is used for the CIS120 Digital Literacy course.

      Darrel began his computer science career as the Staff non-commissioned officer (NCO) in charge of Stock Control of the Supported Activities Supply System Management (SASSY) unit of the 1st Force Service Support Group, 1st Marine Division, United States Marine Corps where he worked with the IBM Series/1 system in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He also comes from the software industry having worked at several companies as a software engineer including Preview Systems where he created the cryptographic functionality used by the company’s core software product. Preview’s motto was, “The secure delivery of digital goods.” He had been teaching Computer Science and Computer Information System courses full-time at Chemeketa Community College since 2001. In 2006, he developed and taught the first cybersecurity course offered at any college or university in the Pacific Northwest. He has experience teaching as an adjunct instructor at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, California and as a lecturer at Western Oregon University. He has also taught at the California Fire Mechanics Academy and had several instructional assignments during his enlistment in the Marine Corps.

      James has been a full-time instructor in the Computer Information Systems Program at Chemeketa Community College for the past 18 years. Prior to moving to Oregon he was a full time technical teacher for 11 years in San Antonio, Texas. Most of those years were at a Technical Academy teaching Dual Credit college CTE courses to high school students. James was also a part-time instructor at a 4-year university teaching Information Systems courses to professionals looking to complete their degrees. He received his undergraduate in Economics from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, an MBA in International Business from OLLU in San Antonio, and his MCT (Microsoft Certified Trainer) certification in 2002. His MCT specialization is in client operating systems and enterprise server configuration. For six of his 18 years here James was one of the primary Cisco Networking Academy instructors, teaching both the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Network Security certification classes. He also teach teaches CompTia A+, CompTIA Network +, and Routing and Switching certification courses.

      Andrew Scholer has been the Computer Science program chair at Chemeketa Community College for six years. He has taught computer science for fifteen years in both high school and college. In addition to teaching, he has developed software platforms for web-based interactive student practice of computer science and programming topics.
