National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education

Welcome to the Center for Cybersecurity at Chemeketa Community College located in Salem, Oregon. Chemeketa has developed a Cybersecurity Center to provide access to Information Security and Information Assurance resources.

  • Cybersecurity Associates Degree
    This degree focuses on cybersecurity and safety, computer forensics, ethical hacking, and routing and switching of networks. To develop the foundational skills in computing, you will take courses in digital literacy, programming, web design, operating systems, hardware, and networks. In your second year you will learn about server management, database management, data security, computer forensics, ethical hacking, routing and switching of networks, network systems management, security+, and computer architecture. You will also have the opportunity to complete cooperative work experience to gain experience that may help lead to a career path.

    Chemeketa is Officially a CAE Designated School! June 5, 2020

    Chemeketa Community College has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education through academic year 2025 for the AAS in Computer Systems and Information Technology.

    Financial Aid Approved - Cybersecurity AAS Degree!

    (September 10th, 2019) - Chemeketa CIS programs Cybersecurity degree has been approved for federal finacial aid!

    Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA)

    (November 16th, 2018) - Homeland Security has a new government agency for cybersecurity. CISA is responsible for protecting the Nation’s critical infrastructure from physical and cyber threats. This mission requires effective coordination and collaboration among a broad spectrum of government and private sector organizations.

      Mandy Reininger has 19 years of teaching computer information systems at the collegiate level. She is active college wide as a member of several committees including the Quality Online Instruction group and the Instructional Technology Advisory Group (iTAG). She has been the CIS program chair for the past 10 years. She is a member of the Oregon Council of Computing Chairs. She co-authored Digital Literacy through Chemeketa Press, the textbook currently is used for the CIS120 Digital Literacy course.

      Andrew Scholer has been the Computer Science program chair at Chemeketa Community College for 7 years. He has taught computer science for 15 years in both high school and college. In addition to teaching, he has developed software platforms for web-based interactive student practice of computer science and programming topics.

      Zachary joined the CIS department with over a decade of professional IT experience. Prior to becoming a member of the CIS faculty Zachary worked in the Chemeketa IT department where he filled numerous roles including systems administration team lead and information security team lead.
